Authenticity is the hallmark of the Mad River Valley. You’ll discover a place with a unique combination of scenic beauty, recreation, and community. “The Valley” exudes an ethos and sense of place that is truly palpable. “The Valley”, as it is known colloquially, gets its name from the Mad River, which runs through the heart of Vermont’s Green Mountains. It includes the towns of Waitsfield, Warren, Fayston, and Moretown. Explore all the reasons to visit the “The Valley” in every season of the year. You’ll find an abundance of “things to do”, special events, a vibrant culinary and beverage scene, unique shopping experiences, and much more.
If he could, my husband would ski every single day, so having the lodge so close to Sugarbush Resort sure is nice. When the powder gets deep you’ll see him up on Castlerock or in their famous glades. If you look closely, you might even see him ripping the powder in Mad River Glen’s legendary trees.
Quinton, the oldest of our three boys is a hiking fanatic. He loves the Mad River Path’s Kingsbury Greenway which starts right from our backyard at the Warren Lodge. His favorite hike is Mount Abraham and the Long Trail which starts on the top of the nearby Lincoln Gap Road. He highly recommends that you take the time to learn more about all the other trails in the MRV.
Blaine, our middle son, has really taken a liking to mountain biking, and “The Valley” has well over 50 miles of single track for every ability level. He and my husband love to bond while single-tracking at Sugarbush.
Chance, our youngest, has always been a jumper. He spends his summers exploring the MRV’s abundant swim holes, looking for rope swings and rocks to leap from. It just so happens that Warren Falls, arguably Vermont’s most spectacular swim hole is just down the road.
As for me I just adore spending time in the various neighborhoods of the Mad River Valley. I just love sending time in Warren Village, shopping, relaxing and enjoying “The Valley’s” pace of life. Another one of my favorite places is Knoll Farm, a retreat center, farm stand and organic pick-your own berry farm. For my money, it’s one of the prettiest places in the whole valley.
One thing we all agree on is our love for food. Lucky for us (and you) the Valley has an incredibly dynamic culinary scene. It has been at the forefront of the farm-to-table movement since farm-to-table was even a thing. And of course, the Mad River Valley is at the epicenter of the craft beer movement with three local breweries right in town including my personal favorite, Lawson’s Finest. Again, this is nothing new, as the Valley has been an entrepreneurial hot-bed for beverage makers for many years.
